MIKE CHAT – XMA Founder / Chief Instructor
Known as the Tony Hawk of martial arts, 7-time World Forms & Weapons Champion and former Blue Power Ranger, Mike Chat is the founder of XMA — Xtreme Martial Arts.
With over 1200 licensed facilities worldwide, Mike Chat is responsible for training over 60 world champions, stunt doubles for Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Matt Damon, Keanu Reeves and Hollywood superstars Taylor Lautner (Twilight Saga), Jaden Smith (The Karate Kid) and Grammy artists Usher, The Black Eyed Peas, and more!
MARC CANONIZADO – Tricks and XMA Instructor
As a member of the prestigious Team Paul Mitchell, Marc is a 12-time NASKA World Champion, and holds 9 ISKA World Champion titles. Marc has made several appearances on ESPN2 as an ISKA World Champion in; Extreme Forms, Weapons, and an XMA Tricks Battle Champion on the famed U.S. Open stage. Originally from Orlando, Florida he has made California his new home pursuing acting, dance, and stunt work opportunities. Some of Marc’s work includes performing for the 2011 Kid’s Choice Awards, appeared on Access Hollywood with the renowned dance performance team – LXD, and just came off a film with Jackie Chan in China. “Mr. C” is one of the lead instructors for the XMA Tricks classes and also teaches the XMA curriculum.
ELISABETH CARPENTER – Acrobatics & Trampoline Instructor
A competitive gymnast since age 7, Elisabeth fell in love with the athletic precision of throwing her body through the air, flipping, twisting, swinging, and jumping off things. She starting instructing others by age 10, and coaching USAG teams by age 16 — all while continuing to compete across the US. At 13, she began touring with Circus Smirkus (featured on Disney’s ‘Totally Circus’), and immediately fell in love again, finding that she could incorporate her athleticism and creativity into performance. After moving to Los Angeles, Elisabeth has traveled the world as an acrobat, aerialist, and hand balancer, working with Cirque du Soleil, Cirque Mechanics, Cirque de la Mer at Sea World, (SD), in a Kennedy Center Production of the classic musical, ‘Carnival’, and for corporations including Detroit Red Wings, Microsoft, Tony Robbins, and Disney. As an instructor, Elisabeth thrives on helping people of all ages achieve their goals, and learn discipline and enjoyment while doing so.
Elle Carpenter grew up as a young actor and athlete – started acrobatics and theatre at age 5 – trained competitive gymnastics for five years before making the decision to focus heavily on acting. After studying musical theatre at American University in DC she moved to LA to study film, circus and music – Elle’s big specialty has always been incorporated circus and special skills into her roles as an actor and her live performances with her rock band. A few favorites include Aerialist in Carnival at the Kennedy Center in DC, Aerialist/Acrobat in the Dos Equis Promotional Rock Tour with Andrew W.K., and featured circus artist on the Conan O’Brian Christmas show 2010. Elle currently works as a composer/recording artist, theatre director for LA’s one and only children’s circus-theatre company – LeStudio’s Kids in ACTion, and free-lance actor/special skills performer.
CAITLIN DECHELLE – Tricks and XMA Instructor
A member of the Black Belt Hall of Fame and the prestigious Team Paul Mitchell, Caitlin is a 62-time World Champion in Forms and Weapons and has achieved 44-NASKA World titles, 6-ISKA World titles, among many others. She was named “Competitor Of The Year” in 2007 by Black Belt Magazine. Caitlin came to Los Angeles in 2011 to pursue a career in entertainment which includes a film with Jackie Chan performing stunts and acting for the project. Ms. Dechelle teaches XMA and is one of the lead instructors for Tricks.
SALAR GHAJAR – Acrobatics and Trampoline Instructor
A competitive martial artist and gymnast, Salar began his training at age 4 and continued throughout his high school years. He received a scholarship for cheerleading at the University of Central Florida where he also received a BA in Marketing. While attending university, Salar worked at Universal Studios in Orlando where he performed as Zorro and a stilt walker. In 2006, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue acting and entertainment. Salar is a writer, stunt man, actor, and a fight choreographer. He is a trampoline and acrobatics instructor at XMA World Headquarters.
SPENCER HILL – XMA and Acrobatics Instructor
Originally from the small town of Kindred, North Dakota, Spencer Hill traveled the country competing in martial arts tournaments as long as he can remember. At the age of four, his parents enrolled him in martial arts hoping it would be a good outlet for his high energy. At age 12, he won his first state title in all categories he competed in and in 2010 he achieved his long time goal of winning a World Championship title in Xtreme Weapons. Spencer Hill also started assisting with classes at his martial arts studio at age 10 and started running his own martial arts studio in his home town at age 16.
In middle school Spencer found he also had a love for acting and performing through participating in school plays. He continued acting in plays throughout high school while also taking private acting classes. In 2007, only two days after shattering his ankle while training, Spencer and his drama team went on to win the state one act competition. Then only a month later, while still wearing a walking boot, competed at the American Taekwondo Association National Championship. Once he graduated, he made the decision to move from his town of 500 people to pursue his dream of acting.
NATALIE PADILLA – Acrobatics and Trampoline Instructor
Fitness and Gymnastics have been a huge part of Natalie’s life. She started gymnastics at the age of 4 and continued through the levels earning a scholarship to the University of Iowa. After two years at the U of I, Natalie transferred to UCLA, one of the top gymnastics and academic school in the nation. They were the 2007 Pac-10 Champions and made it to the “Super Six” team finals every year at the NCAA National Championship. After graduating with a degree in Psychology focusing on Health Psychology, Natalie transitioned her career to stunt work where one of her first stunt projects was the TV show “Make It or Break It” doubling one of the main actresses. She continues to keep busy in all aspects of stunts and has been involved in many projects – one of recent movies she worked on was “The Hunger Games”. She continues to focus on her health and fitness background and hopes that by teaching gymnastics and tumbling that she can inspire others to love fitness as much as she does.

JOHN ROSS – Acrobatics and Trampoline Instructor
John was a former trampoline champion placing 3rd at the world championships and winning 4 national titles. He was also a champion aerial freestyle skier and won the silver medal at the world championships. His all-around athleticism eventually led him to stunts. Currently he is stunt performer and coordinator.
NICK STANNER – Acrobatics and Trampoline Instructor
21 years as a gymnast, including time training at the University of Nebraska and the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, 3 years with Cirque Du Soleil, and 10 years as a professional stunt man for film and television. Nick was raised in a gymnastic’s club owned by his parents in Omaha, Nebraska. Nick’s father, Mike was Chairman of the US Gymnastic’s Federation. Nick started instructing at age 13. Nick is the lead acrobatics instructor for the last 8 years at the XMA Program designed by Mike Chat. Nick has trained numerous World Champions, helping them to achieve their titles.
MAYA TREMBLAY – Trampoline, Acrobatics & Fusion Instructor
Ever since she started running at a mere 6 months old, Maya’s enjoyed being a performer. Although she had a well-rounded childhood; filled with arts, academics and music (including singing at church and a solo violin performance at the Kennedy at age 6) Maya chose gymnastics as her true passion. As an elite gymnast on track for the Olympics, she traveled coast-to-coast for national competitions. Unfortunately Maya’s Olympic hopes were shatter at age 12 when she tore several ligaments in her knee, ending her gymnastics career. She coached pre-team for some time at 13, but numb from the loss decided to leave the gym and devote herself to academic pursuits. She graduated from UVA with degrees in Mathematics and Commerce, but found that her new passion was acting and singing. Having performed during summers and breaks at Hershey Park, Kings Dominion and other venues; as well as having roles in a few movies and cable shows that filmed in VA, Maya was already SAG and growing a resume. So after graduation, she decided to move to LA to pursue a new chapter in performing. Looking for a position in LA, she was immediately drawn back to the gym and happy to find a home at XMA.
OSEI “AXE” VITA – Capoeira and Acrobatics Instructor
Axe (ah-shay), originally from Chicago, Illinois, learned martial arts from his father. Axe and his 3 brothers started learning Kung Fu and acrobatics at age 4 and continued for 17 years. Axe, his brothers, and father performed for Ringling Brothers’ Circus for 1 ½ years. At age 20, Axe began studying Capoeira, the Brazilian martial art form invented by the Brazilian slaves 500 years ago. He moved to Brazil for some time to continue his studies. He has been instructing Capoeira at XMA since it’s opening in 2007. He has done and continues to do commercials. He, his father, and his brothers have performed on the Emmy’s, Grammy’s, The NBA Half -Time Tour, BET Awards, and MTV Awards.
